Course Description
Water supply is a main concern for industry, more particularly in the regions associated with water scarcity like GCC. Water purification and desalination technologies can be used to convert brackish ground water or seawater into potable and or de-mineralized water. The challenge is to do so sustainably, using appropriate technologies with minimum CAPEX and OPEX. The present course covers the desalination technologies associated with thermal systems. Thermal Vapor Compression (TVC) or Thermo Compression Distillation (TCD) is considered as an efficient technique to produce distilled water without rotating parts like Mechanical compression. Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) desalination technologies can utilize both of Thermal Vapor Compression (TVC) or Mechanical Vapor Compression (MVC).The participants will learn how to approach water chemistry principals associated with desalination techniques , parameters , how to develop process concepts, evaluate their utility, and move forward into design , operational and maintenance requirements. Technologies of existing desalination systems will be discussed and factors which limit the performance, Gain Output Ratio (GOR) or the affordability of these systems will be highlighted, Combined heat cycle , power and MED- TVC will be highlighted.
